Chinatown Restaurant is a straightforward, full-service Chinese spot nestled on West Appleway Avenue in Coeur d'Alene. It’s the kind of place locals seem to return to for reliably cooked meals that strike a familiar and comforting note, whether dining in or grabbing takeout. The atmosphere is what you might expect from a classic neighborhood Chinese restaurant — unpretentious, with a no-frills dining room that puts the focus on the food and friendly, attentive service.

The menu is wide-ranging, offering familiar crowd-pleasers like Sweet & Sour Chicken, Orange Chicken, and their take on Honey Walnut Shrimp, alongside comforting soups such as Egg Drop and Won-Ton, plus a handful of satisfying noodle and rice dishes. Lunchtime here is popular for those looking for a good value, with a variety of combo plates around $8.50 to $11.99 that come with enough portions to consider saving some for later. This makes it a practical stop for working locals or anyone needing a reliable lunch option that won’t disappoint.

Visitors who appreciate a straightforward, hearty Chinese meal with traditional flavors will feel at home here. The staff’s reputation for friendliness and responsiveness helps offset some of the less polished details — a few longtime diners mention the presence of some clutter and outdoor upkeep that could be improved, but once inside, it’s the warmth of the service and steady food quality that stands out.

Delivery and takeout are also common choices, and the restaurant’s willingness to remake orders if something goes wrong underscores a customer-first approach that earns repeat visits. Vegetarians can find a few thoughtful options like Fried Pepper Tofu or vegetable-based dishes, which isn’t always a given at similar local spots.

Overall, Chinatown Restaurant suits those who want a no-nonsense, convivial meal anchored in classic Chinese-American cuisine without the fuss. It’s best to come prepared for a casual, homey experience where the steady, well-executed food and friendly service are the main draws.

I’ve been here a few times now - always for lunch. There is a special lunch combo menu with loads of options listed for $11.99 each - you won’t have a problem finding something to order & you’re likely to have leftovers for another meal at home. Ambiance, food items, and wait staff are classic sit-down Chinese restaurant style - solid quality and reliably pleasant. Give this place a try if you haven’t already.

It was my first time to get this Chinese food. It was recommended by a friend Jacqueline Jordan. It was so delicious! Everyone was so nice. Especially thw hort. I gave her a little extra christmas tip. I met the manger and he was a nice man. We got take out so I was thinking to not expect too much. I was wrong. Everything was amazing.Thank you!

It's cozy and great price. I must say the outside is janky. There were cans, trash and cigarette butts before you enter the restaurant, also mild cat urine odor. I didn't have high expectations. But the staff makes up for it with their friendliness and attentiveness. I've ordered hot and sour soup. The soup base was very good, the soup itself is a little unusual. Hot and sour soup typically has mushrooms cut in strips and seaweed strips. This one didn't have seaweed and the muchrooms were slices chuncky, which changes the texture significantly. If you're seeking that traditional chinese hot and sour soup, this is not quite it. Everything else looked appetizing, but i didn't try.

Searched for a Chinese restaurant in the area, and tried this one. Great vegetarian options! I got the fried pepper tofu (soo tasty!), and my husband got one of the combos. Looking forward to trying Chinatown Restaurant again soon!

We always order yummy combos and they let us do some subs so that we get what we really like I love the special beef and sweet n sour shrimp and the noodles , the lo Mein! We've been ordering from you guys for a few years now and really appreciate the fresh hot food that gets delivered every time ! Even the egg rolls are perfect and huge ! We usually sub the soup for an extra egg roll for an upcharge and a large portion of the chicken lo Mein is also an upcharge. Thx guys
